TCR Rifles

I would like to hear from any TCR Rifle owners as to how they like their TCR Rifles. I very much would love to find a TCR 83, with the double triggers. Their is however a local man who has a TCR87? with the single triggers. He has a 30-06 barrel, 223 rem barrel and a smooth bore in 12ga with sights and forearm, all barrels have scope mounts and rings. He is asking 800.00 for the package. Should I hold out for a double trigger model or go after this package?

I would be on that in a minute. Barrels in 223 go for around 250.00 the 06 dont seem to sell as good, dont know about the 12 guage. Most mounts bring around 50.00 if they are the dove tail TC type and even weavers bring about 25.00 a nice TCR 87 with nice wood and condition will bring 600.00 on gun brokers. The TCR 83 is a super nice gun with deep rich Blueing and most have the quick release forend. I have an 87 and did have a 83 but I found for my use that the set trigger was to light and when you set the trigger you better have it ready to go because when you touch the firing trigger it was gone, hair trigger if you will. for target shooting it was great but for hunting I much prefer the 87 I guess that is why TC called it the TCR 87 Hunter. I have the 7mm Rem mag barrel for it and shoot the reduced loads and have taken a number of deer with it. Ed's still has a couple of 7MM barrels new for 150.00 each There are a number of members on here who have TCR rifles. You should keep in mind that the 223 is 1-12 twist and dont handle bullets over 55 GRN. very good or at least mine did not.

I own an 83 Aristocrate with the double set trigger.  I use mine for hunting and love that set trigger.  If I am moving and see something the trigger works just like an 87 by just squeezing the front trigger.  When using the shotgun I don't use the set trigger.  If you have time and are making a long shot, set the trigger and get ready.  Do not touch that front trigger till you are ready to shoot.  Once set that front trigger is very touchy.  The lightest pressure and it goes off.  I love that, I don't feel it is too light.  To me it is just right.

I have 22-250, 243, 7MM Mag, 30-06, 338 Win Mag, 35 Whelen, and 3 1/2" 12ga.  I've taken Grouse, Dove, Pheasent, Turkey, Fox, Coyotes, Wolves, Antalope, Mule Deer, Whitetail, Caribou, Moose, Black Bear, and Grizzly, with mine.

That sounds like a good price. The last time I saw a 87 the owner wanted $650. and it had just a weaver base on the
barrel. I had a TCR 83 in 30-06 and a 243 barrel and got foolish and traded it away. They are really nice looking and
handling rifles.

I just picked up a nice TCR 87 with a 7-08 barrel for $450 about a month ago, it came with a newer 2.5X weaver.  The trigger had been worked (previous owner said by the TC custom shop) it is around 2lbs.  Anyways, it is not much heavier of a trigger pull then my Dad's '83 with the trigger set.  $800 sounds like a pretty good deal for the whole setup.  I'd go for it.
 
It is a shame they lost the tooling for making them (TCR's). By far one of the best designs for a break action single shot. The only thing I dislike is the safety (I'm a lefty).  If nothing else you could always sell the '87 action and still be barrels ahead for your '83.

I have one with the sporter forarm in 06 and a heavy barrel 22-250 with a beavertail forend.  Love them both, but would like a 12 ga. barrel to round it out.  For 800 bucks I'd grab it.

$800 for a 3-bbl package that includes the rarer 12ga/forend is GTA (Grand Theft Anywhere).
 
I have had both 83/Aristocrat's & 87 / Hunter's - I like the high polish & wood/checkering of the 83 best, but the DST can be a PITA for hunting, so in that respect, I like the 87's trigger setup better.
 
I've found that I actually prefer mine to stay bareback, to keep it as a lightweight stalking rifle - and have ordered/installed from T/C a set of the bright fiber-optic front/rear sights meant for the FireHawk/ThunderHawk muzzleloaders - which dropped right onto the TCR's front sight holes & rear sight island.
 
Actually, I'm looking to trade a NIB 20ga Franchi AL-48 Deluxe lightweight semi-auto shotgun w/26" choke-tubed bbl for either an '83 or '87 in .243 Win.

Okay, thought I would post an update. I ended up buying the package. I shot the 30-06 barrel and was somewhat disapointed with the accuracy. The shotgun barrel apperared unfired so I let it alone. The medium weight 223 barrel shoots great. Ended up selling off the 30-06 and 12 ga barrels. Long story short I ended up finally getting my TCR and have only $305.00 into it. Yeah, I'm a happy camper. I wanted a TCR Rifle for a very long time. I had a .222 Remington TCR I was going to buy off my good friend Walt McIntyre a few years back but sadly he passed away. I sure miss him. T-C people are just great!  I am really hoping to find a .222 Rem and .22 Hornet barrels for my TCR someday. Also I sure wished there was a site dedicated to TCR's. Thanks to all who responed to my initial post.
