rebore options
« on: June 26, 2012, 07:03:11 AM »
What would be some options for re-bore of a 44 Mag. barrel?  Do not need a 444 and have a 45-70.  45 Colt, maybe or 45 Cascul?

You can still find .45 Colt barrels a lot cheaper than reboring, and it can be reamed to .454 to shoot both.

The rebore to 454 is not an option if the 44 mag is on an SB1 frame which all factory 44 mag rifles made since 2008 are,  but as Pete said, 45 Colt BC Carbine barrels are available used and can be had for less that a rebore costs. Rechamber to 445 Supermag or 444 Marlin is the usual route for a 44mag. You could do a 50 Alaskan for something different. 8)

Thanks, guys for the replies.  I guess the 444 makes sense.  Quick, will the 444 work on the SB1 frame?

Negative on the 444 SB1, even 445 Supermag is marginal.
