$360-$399 for USED Handis in .444 and .45-70 ??!?!?
« on: June 03, 2012, 04:40:34 PM »
Is it me, or does that seem a bit steep for used (and slightly rusted here and there) Handi's ?
Found both at a local Gander, and was like, what in the world?

Gander is always high with the used guns.  Quite a few times I found some there only $20-50 shy of a new one.  I look there every once in a while but you need to know what you are looking for to find a deal.
My biggest fear in life is dying and my wife selling my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

I've had my .45-70 Handi for a number of years now, and remember paying $289 NIB for it.  Now used they're selling for around $100 more????

I just bought a new one (45-70) for $229 at Uncle Lee's in Greenville KY.  They have a new 444 on the shelf for that price. That is their everyday new price on most wood/blue handis.  They have some calibers for $239.
Handis: .17 mach2 (x2), .22 lr, 22 hornet, .22 jet, .223, .243, .270, .280, .357 max (x2), 35 remington, 35 whelen, 45-70, 445sm, 30-30, 410, 500 S&W, 50 AK

My local candy store sells em for $250 out the door, in any caliber that Ellett Bros has in stock.  His used ones go from 175-200.  If one has been on the shelf for a while it can be had for less.

IMHO, the big box stores are a good place to go see and handle a piece, but rarely to buy. The flip side is if you cant find what you want anywhere else, i.e., a 38-55 TM in VG to Ex. It doesnt matter what the product is, if it is worth it to you, I cant fault you for buying it.

I was in Cabelas in Wheeling, WV over the weekend and spotted a like new Ultra .223 with an off brand BDC scope for $299. Still kickin' myself for not walking out with it. I paid $300 for a new BC not too long ago.
