6.5 or 7-08

I am looking to get a new barrel for my t/c encore pistol. I am debating on either the 7-08 or 6.5 Remington Magnum. Both barrels are 15" pistol barrels with a muzzle tamer from t/c 's custom shop. I plan on installing a rifle scope on this pistol.Which of these will have the least amount of recoil? I think it would be the 7-08 , but I don't know for sure. Thanks.

The 7mm-08. I guess you're talking about used barrels, because there is no more T/C Custom Shop since S&W's acqisition of T/C, and relocation of the manufacturing to Springfield.

7-08 ,I have one in 10" with a 4x Leupold on it and love it .

What kind of helmet/face mask do you have?  I have been wanting to try a setup like that but want to get the face protection first.

P.S.  I have a couple of single shots like that and I wouldn't be putting my face in front of a rifle scope before touching them off.  Full case of Trail Boss with muzzle brake may not be bad.  Anything close to my hunting loads will leave a scar.   :'(

I shot a 708 in an XP-100 with scope installed . A 308 in an encore with scope  and never experinced face trouble . Of course I use a scope made for a handgun with l o n g  e y e  r e l i e f . You should try one they are great.

Powder capacity is noticeably less on the 08 versus the RM 6.5
Recoil is also determined by bullet weight.  What weights for each barrel are you considering?
Never used the MT brakes before, so I do not know how effective they are.
If you want a rifle scope on there I would consider getting a better brake for one.  I use riflescopes on about all of my SP's now, with cartridge capacities quite a bit larger then the 6.5RM.
7-08 will be less recoil.

We cant give you the best answer on choice if we dont know its intended purpose.  If you want a 6.5 without going to the 6.5 RM you could select the 260 Rem.  It would be good for whatever the 7-08 is used for.

Many years ago I tried the rifle scope on my 15" .243 Winchester for the TC Encore.  It was fine until I got comfortable with the setup and crept up on the scope one day and became a member of the "Cressant Eyebrow Club", nice half moon cut, warm blood dripping, and my shooting buddies at work knew exactly what happened.  I now have a pistol scope on a 15" .260 Rem. and have taken several deer with it.
 
There used to be forums with formulas to calculate recoil based upon gun weight, bullet weight and the weight of powder used.  Don't know if they are still available or how accurate they were.

IMO-Not only do you need to go with a high quality brake, if you are going to use a rifle-scope, choose a scope that has longer eye relief. 
Looking up specs of different scopes will give you a good idea.
Burris is one of the bad offenders in terms of short eye relief with rifle scopes (used to be anyway).
Sightron S-III's, Leupold VX-3's LR/T, NF, and Vortex typically have longer eye relief with their rifle-scopes.

I totally agree SHOOTALL.  I have not only tried one, but I have several dozen of my own.  Next week I will shoot 2 XPs mounted with pistol scopes and a couple of other pistols with rifle scopes.  None of them will be recoiling like a 7-08 or 6.5 mag.  My buddy shoots a 7-08 and I have seen the recoil it produces with his deer loads.  I would not shoot those loads with a rifle scope attached.  It is an open ticket to some forehead stitches.   My 32-20 and mild 7TCU loads cause the rifle scope to bump my safety glasses several times in a match.  Relax a little like that with a higher recoiling round and SPLAT, right in the face with no opportunity to protect yourself.   :o

One thing to take into account is you have a much  better bullet selection in 6.5 than you do in 7mm for pistol velocity use for the hunting aspect. More match bullets in 6.5 also.
