bad valve stem
« on: June 04, 2012, 04:04:23 AM »
Anybody ever had an issue with their valve stems?  My rear tire went flat on the way home Friday.  I only have about 4000 miles on this set of tires and was not liking the prospect of having to get another new rear tire so soon.  When I aired it up to check for the leak, the air was escaping around where the stem goes into the rim (it is tubeless).  I am beginning to think that the stems were not changed when the new tires were put on.  On the otherhand, I have had the same set of tires on my Explorer for 8 years, so those stems haven't been changed for that period of time and I have never heard of valve stems going bad before.  I know I always get new stems on the Explorer because I always have to buy new chrome stem covers because they don't take them off of the old stems.

Rear stem was leaking at the rim.  Got a new one put on for $32.14.  Just hope the front one doesn't start leaking now.
