Texas Blue Lacy
« on: March 16, 2012, 03:57:06 AM »
I have owned and hunted over dogs of many different breeds, chasing all kinds of game from rabbits to mountain lion; most of those years were spent here in Texas.  Today I learned that I had been missing out on one of the better hunting breeds available and that the dog is the “State Dog of Texas,” (I never knew there was a state dog.) The dog is called a Blue Lacy, or Texas Blue Lacy.  It has just been recognized as a specific breed by the National Kennel Club and is under consideration of being accepted by the AKC. The friend that provided me the information had just returned from a week-end hog hunt in South Texas where the dogs were used to chase and catch hogs.   According to him it is like many of the other hound breeds and can be trained for hunting everything from rabbits to lion.  It is also a good family pet and cattle working dog, Seems like it’s everything wrapped in one package.
