NEED HELP WITH CONTENDER FRAME
« on: May 22, 2012, 09:20:08 AM »
I have a Contender frame when you cock the hammer and pull the trigger, the hammer falls but will not hit the firing pin. I have had this frame completely apart and compared it with another frame, and I just can not figure out what is wrong. I have tryed several barrels on the frame and get the same results. Any help would be appreciated.

If ya can see it ya can hit it !

The screw that holds the stock on may be long and preventing full travel.  Back it out a turn or two and try it.  The other obvious thing is the locking bolts, but it is hard to think that several barrels all are not able to enter far enough to work.

I think Keith is right the stock bolt may be too long. I had one like that and it made it into a hair trigger shim it back with some flat washers.

With the barrel and the stock off it will cock, but hammer will not hit firing pin. Now,even with the stock off and the barrel on ,the hammer  won't cock.

And the barrel works with other frames?

Yes, the barrel's works fine with other frames, but not this frame . I'm begining to think that striker and trigger may have been honed by the previous owner.

Did you ever determine the problem ?  When you attempt to fire does the interlock safety drop ?  The interlock must drop or the hammer cannot contact the firing pin. For this to happen the locking bolt must extend under the shelf far enough to move the interlock.  Do other barrels work properly on this frame ?  Have you checked the top of the bolt by marking to see how much marker was rubbed off by closing the barrel ? Do your barrels all have the split bolts on them ?

Richard P, I have not determined the problem yet. I recently sent the frame to TC Arms and they said there was nothing wrong with the frame and said if it did not work when I got it to send it back with the barrel. Problem is it will not cock with none of my barrels (tried 4 barrels), but the barrels work fine with all my other frames. It will cock with no barrel on the frame with or without the butt stock. All my barrels have the split locking bolts. I hope someone has an answer for me, because I am not sending it back to TC Arms again, but I am going to give them a call on Monday.

In regards to the hammer not cocking with a barrel on the frame, I have honed the locking bolts, no help. I talked to gunsmith and he told me to barely open the barrel from the frame and see if it would cock and it did cock, and I can close the barrel, pull the trigger, and the hammer will hit the firing pin. The gunsmith wants me to send it to him, but I'm thinking that one of you Contender guru's can now tell me what I need to do to fix the problem. By the way , the locking bolts on barrel are the type with the tit that sticks out.
