Handi-grip eval questions
« on: June 21, 2012, 06:30:07 AM »
I like the way it feels [Handi-grip] but the walls of the stock seem very thin and the recoil pad seems soft and easy to damage.  Haven't given it a rough trip yet so just wondering what others experienced with it over time.

I note it being light makes rifle muzzle heavy, but easy to put some weight in the hollow stock.

I bought a couple when I first saw them. I liked how the thumb hole was spacious enough to quickly manipulate the hammer ambidexteriously. (Is that a word?)

I like the look, the feel but disliked that the comb was so lo.... My eye was no where near lining up with the scope.

I used it one season on my 454 and shot a couple deer and a coyote with it in place. I saw no other negatives.

BUT I did sell them off and replaced them with camp lam syn stocks... Just as light, also good looking and higher combs! My eye lines up almost perfectly.

I have one on one of my frames.  Have shot .30/06 and .280 Rem barrels on that frame and Handi-Grip as well as a couple smaller chamberings.

I like mine alot!  And if any folks are having problems, was unaware of that fact!  Have no intention of getting rid of mine.

Thank you for the input.  Guess I don't have to be concerned about strength.  Mine is on the old 45-70 22", which I've always kept ready as a 'depend-on' back up gun for anything in TX, and extra range gun, you know... to let my 'black' rifle buddies find out what a 'real' rifle feel like when it goes off.

I'll be stuffing the stock with a little weight to bring the balance point back to the trigger guard.  Wood was good, but just felt uncomfortable and bulky.  Shooting moderate loads so the weight isn't so important.  Basically, if it doesn't 'feel' right I don't play with it.  So I guess I can recommend this stock for short folks with short necks like me, and low mounted scopes.

And since I'm camera happy today...
