Two finds.
« on: June 22, 2012, 10:30:59 PM »
A gunsmith FFL friend of mine in Thompson, MI has a like new BC .45-70 for sale for 300.  He has it on consignment for one of his customers.  It is in perfect condition.  He said the owner put a half dozen rounds through it and didn't like the recoil.  It's all original.  I had no interest in it and didn't ask him about the extra front sight parts.  If anyone here wants more info, just PM me.

A friend of mine was at a small gun show in NE Wisconsin last Sunday and saw a Handi .32-20 for 240.  Fred knew I had one, so didn't bother to get the guy's card.  :'( :'(   I don't know if we can track it down, but I think it would be worth finding.  We're having breakfast this morning with Fred and his wife, so I'll try to see if he can recall any more details.  I'll at least find out what show it was at.

I'll add to the list, last weekend I saw one of the nicest H&R's I've ever seen. It was at a big chain store so PM me for more info if interested. The price tag was hefty at $699 but is was a 38-55 Target that someone did a nice refinish on so that it looked like a high end factory gun. The barrel was reblued in a high luster finish. It had custom high end walnut stocks that were cut the same as the original stocks (straight grip with steel butt plate/Schnabel forend). It also has a tang mounted ladder peep sight. I think the serial number began with HP.

Talked to Fred.  The show with the .32-20 was at a club in Goodman, WI if that helps anyone.  He said there were about a dozen tables.

I didn't know they ever made a 32-20 - I've seen them mentioned a couple time recently - are they facrtory barrels or onse someone has made up?  I'd love to find one to play with!!

No, H&R never made .32-20s.  Larry Trotter (trotterlg) made most of the ones here.  I have one of his.  It's a .303 barrel stubbed to a cut off Pardner shotgun barrel.  If that one in Wisconsin turns up and is in decent shape, 240 would be a steal by the time you add up the shotgun barrel, the .303 barrel, the frame, stock and gunsmithing.
