I've got a 2002 ram 1500 with 20 inch mags.Unfortunatly there is only one tire made for this wheel,its a street tire(passenger car).So now when the snow flies I'll be relegated to my $30000.00 toboggen.Am I pissed!!! Dodge wont even listen to me,next truck might be Ford.SGB :evil:

I would think you could buy a set of 16" snow tires and another set of winter wheels for what your gonna pay for those 20" tires. KN

Your problem in the world of the latest vehicle with fancy rims and tires.

I think KN has the right idea.  Try 16 inch rims and tall sixteen inch tires(85) side walls.  We had the same problem a few years ago with a Grand Am.  We traded it in for a Jeep because of snow and mud.

I say swap out to 16's like the others said.. I thought the 20,s on the new Dodges were an option or part of an appearence package, I didnt think you had to take them :?

hunt4570, I have the same truck and rims & tires. I took mine in deep snow after our big storm and did not have a problem. Also I did not try to go off roading with it at that time. I to would like to have a more aggressive tires for the snow. But I use my 1996 Dodge Ram when it gets real deep and I have to plow through. It has 16.5 inch tires. I have thought about getting some 17 inch rimes and tires for the winter for the 2002 Dodge. When I bought the truck I was not thinking when I selected the 20 inch rims.

Yeah it is pretty crazy, if you can hold out the winter with the tires you have I am sure the tire companys will start producing 20's in different flavors by next year :grin:
When I get my new Dodge I am going to swap the 17" stockies out for some welds wrapped in pro comps or swampers, so it doesnt matter to me. Besides I dont think you can get 20's on a 2500 Hi Po deisel even if you wanted too :wink:

My new F150 came with very nice 16 inch General tires on it. I prefer BF. Goodrich all terrain KO's, but those will have to wait awhile. Had a set on my '94 Explorer...AWESOME tires.

My 2001 F150 came with General Grabbers(P255/70/R16). WORST tires I've had since my Firestone 721s from 20 years ago......

Well I bit the bullet, Bought a set of American Eagle 17 inch mags and a set of BF Goodrich all terain TA's 285 60 17's.perfect set up.Tire dealer took my wheels and junk goodyear tires in on trade.SGB :grin:

  I'd also go with simply buying new wheels and going that route.  One thing I look at when I do buy a vehicle is the availablity of parts - tires being one of tthem.

BlkHawk, Both those tires are street tires,The goodyears are pure junk(I know from experiance,those are the ones I just unloaded)I don't have any experiance with the yokahoma but the tread is not aggresive enough to get me out of trouble.But thanks for the reply.SGB :D

I am not sure why someone would want a truck for off road use that has 20" wheels.  I know why the street guys want the larger wheels though.  Because they have no intention of leaving the clean pavement!  When I ordered my Avalanche I chose the 17" wheels because they were the most practical for what I intended the truck for and one of the more popular tire sizes for a better selection at a cheaper price.  Maybe you should touch base with Mickey Thompson.  They might make a line of 44" Super Swampers to fit your 20" wheels.  However, if the snow is where you want to play I recall all the truck owners back home in Michigan switching out there big mud tires for the skinny 16.5" snow tires every winter.  It was the best combination for traction in the snow.

hunt 4570, how is that Dodge's problem. They put 20 inch wheels on a vehicle, you liked it so you bought it. Maybe they should give you a list of gas stations and insurance companies too. :sniper:

Yeah get a Ford. Ford is still doing recalls from 1983. Remember the ignition module problem they had. Ford wouldn't even recall them until a Federal Judge made them. At least Chrysler and GM will fix problems they have.  :shock:
