1st experence with 223 contender
« on: October 16, 2012, 07:58:40 AM »
well i couldn't wait till the scope i bought to get here so i mounted up a millet red dot on the 14" 223 barrel i bought and after sighting it in i was very impresed shooting some 50 grain american eagle hp i was hitting pop cans at 50-75 yards off hand  95%[the other 5%was my fault hard to hold that long heavy barrel still when standing] of the time can't wait till i can get the scope on it and work up a few good loads it's possable that the 223 may replace the 41mag as my favorite cal in a contender also i was suprised the amercian eagle 50 grain hp ammo was headstamped lc 09 not fed 223

Federal runs the Lake City ammunition plant and has apparently been using LC brass in manufacturing AE ammo.

don't shoot it without ear muffs on.  I did mine once, it put me to the ground.  loudest and most painful of any guns I got, but a shooter for sure.

If you reload, a bit faster burning powder helps tremendously reducing the flash and boom of the shorter barrel Contender.

I never shoot without ear muffs anyway and why would anybody not shoot without them?
