Trigger job, accurate .22 LR ammunition for CZ.

My new CZ American arrived yesterday with a test target group slightly under.50. Looking for recommendations on domestic, moderately priced ammunition that is likely to group well. I enjoy shooting a lot of rounds and that makes price more important than ultimate, bench rest quality grouping for my everyday shooting. Would like to hear about 3-4 brands I could test when the scope arrives. The trigger is creepy, but no problem with the letoff or overtravel when you finally get there. I found the web instructions for trigger modification to fix creep - is it easy to do or something best left to my gunsmith? Or, should I shoot the gun a while to see if the trigger gets better?

My CZ shoots under a .5 or under at 50 yards most of the time if I do my part with Federal Lightning and at .99 a box at Wally World that is what mine gets most of the time. I have shot some of the target stuff and will continue to try different brands looking for better groups. For the price and the difference of group size the Lightning is a easy choice for now. If you have not done trigger work before might be best to let the gunsmith do the work "chase that little ball bearing around the shop".  Good luck and good shooting

I had a gunsmith work on both my CZ's. One trigger is darn near creepless and breaks at just over 2lbs, the other he couldn't get rid of all the creep. Apparently not all the triggers are the same.

There is a really cheap CZ trigger kit I've ordered that I've heard nothing but praise about in the CZ forum. check it out. It includes 4 different weight springs and two different thickness sleeves.

As for ammo, I tried several types and settled on Winchester T22 and Federal Match (711B) being the best for my particular rifles.

I have the trigger kit that eroyd refers to...about $12 from eric brooks.  It works great.  I used the thinner of the two sleeves and the second heaviest spring.  

My rifle (the trainer model) shoots Wolf MT and Eley target rifle almost as well as Lapua.  At under $3/box they are my favorites. Lately, I've been shooting at 200 yards using those great iron sights.  With sub sonic ammo the rifle will group around 4" provided there's not much wind.  I have an Ultra Lux (28" barrel) on the way so I'll probably use that as the unscoped rifle and put a scope back on the trainer.

I got super lucky with mine, likes most ammo, minute of Squirrel head..  I use open sites, so not that fine tuned .. I am just using standard Winchester hp's so far.. have tried some other ammo.. all shoots well out of it.... I love the rifle for sure...  First day I was shooting was 3/4in groups at 25 yds ..  Haven't really done much now with weather being nasty but plan on good work out in Spring..  I have not done anything but add sling to it. the stock trigger is ok with me... for my purpose so far.. :-)

I used the Brooks trigger kit on my CZ 452, used the second weakest spring and the thicker brass sleeve.  The trigger breaks crisp and clean at 1 pound with no creep at all.  It is also safe, cannot make it break when cocked by hitting the butt on a carpeted floor as hard as I dare.

Takes about 15 minutes to fit, start to finish.  For $11 it was a bargain......

Try some Wolfe match ammo.  It sells for about the same price as most regular brands.  Accuracy is outstanding.  That's not just my experience, but that of many other users that I know. :wink:

I did the trigger myself on my CZ and got down under a LBS and it shoots 5 shot group with Power points just over 1/4 inch.

Try that AguilaSE ammo, It will group under .50 all day long in My long barreled ultra lux I get it for $1.50 round here.
