........In the single shot you aren't limited to the round nose bullets for the 30-30 as you are in the lever guns BUT you still have to contend with the lower velocity that the 30/30 has vs the 06 and mags that many of the bullets are designed to fuction at their higher velocity.....you will have to chose your aim better for the less violent upset of the bullets used......the ballistic tip is for more long range use to my thinking and I would rather use the 150 solid base for better penetration on the hogs and the small bodied Tenn. deer will do good with the ballistic tip or hollow point.......this is from my limited exposure to the similar 30cal handguns that some friends load and shoot and I worked with them on loadings and sight in.....HTH..good luck and good shooting!!

Gunoil,
My 30/30 is a Winchester with 20 inch barrel.
My first choice was the 170 grain Hornaday Interlock, and I am so pleased, that I will try no other jacketed bullets in it.
This bullet is best at short range.

I have been using a single shot and bolt action .30-30's for 32 years now. The best bullet I have found is the Winchester pointed power point in 150g size. I also like the Remington bulk 125g bullets.

I will second what Snowshoe said about using the 125 Rem PSP bulk bullets single shot. They are supprisingly accurate in my 30/30. BM
