Updated today at 9:01 AM (WHAS11) - An Indiana man's attempt to transport his grandfather's remains home to Indianapolis ended in upset at a Florida Airport. A TSA agent spilled the ashes on the terminal floor.
John Gross was leaving the Orlando airport with a tightly sealed jar, labeled as his grandfather's ashes. He did not anticipate any issue getting through to his flight until he ran into a TSA agent.
Gross says when the agent opened his bag and took out the jar, he warned the agent to "please be careful" with the remains. He then says the agent allegedly used her finger to sift through the ashes and then accidentally spilled them onto the floor. Gross says the agent laughed while trying to pick up what was spilled and never apologized for the incident.
TSA rules say human remains are to go through the X-ray machine at the security checkpoint and are to be opened under *no* circumstances.
