Welcome me to the ranks!

Of the 338 ultra mag.

My 7mm ultra wasn't big enough.  My 458 Lott wasn't flat enough. So I needed this gun. See, need, promise.

Remmy 700 xcr w/ laminate and millet lrs-1. My smith just received my Jp recoil eliminator brake and it's Shootin time. Loaded up some cheap sst's for plinkin and rough sight in. Will be a 225 grain barnes TTSXBT sittin on top of a bunch of rl-22 for my hunt load.

All said and done after I brake it not a bad way to spend 1500$.

Ive got to get a 338 ultra or even a 340 wby soon. Ive fooled with the 338 mag some but never though it did anything i couldnt do with my 8mag and the 8mag is flatter shooting. A ultra or 340 would defineately step it up a notch.

Just wait till you see the brake that's gettin put on it. ;) I'll be able to use it as a moose anchor!  And I'm not talking about Shootin them. Hahaha.

Luckily I'm not very small so carry weight isn't a huge issue for me. And the front part of the scope is a sunshade. I mean, it's a 35mm, so a big scope by any regards, but it I'm planning a high altitude hunt that I don't wanna carry 15#s of gun, I can put the Tupperware stock back on, and leave the sunshade and muzzle brake back at home.

Nice looking rifle ya got there.  Have you considered the new Nosler 300 gr Accubond?  The B.C. is .720, i think.  It would be pretty awesome outta that powder guzzler.

300 is a little big for me. 225 stood in the middle with trajectory and energy. That .712 keeps up with my .514 until about 500 yards, then that 300 grain turns into an anchor!

300 does maintain impressive energy though. I'm going to stick with the 225 for my hunt load, but would never discount a good bullet for some fun Shootin!

And since I'm a Barnes shooter (just the way it is....). If I was going to go the larger route... Their new 280 grain lrx at .667 is very tempting.  But really don't know if I wanna go for the recoil increase for the energy increase.

Hi Corbanzo:

I just flat out LOVE RUMS. My 300 RUM has taken about 20 head of game from Montana to Africa. I built a semi custom 338 RUM that really shoots. It has the black and silver laminate stock and SS barrel. I had my gunsmith Flute the Barrel and spiral flute the Bolt. Then INSIDE the flutes paint them DARK GRAY to match the Leupold Boone & Crockett scope. Then I had him put on a custom muzzle break the same contour as the barrel. It came out nice. My .300 & .338 are sort of twins...LOL

Both my rifles shoot Remington Full house loads in less than an inch, with the Nosler Partition bullets at 100 yards. I didn't even bother to handload for them, even though I do handload for about 12 different calibers.

They hit like the Hammer of Thor.
