Anyone done a 32 H&R or 327 mag barrel?
« on: June 24, 2012, 02:41:22 AM »
The talk about the 38 popularity brought to mind the newest 32 - the 327 mag.  I have a couple 32 H&R mag revolvers and have always wanted a 32 H&R rifle (especially a lever gun).  I always thought the ability to shoot the 32 H&R and all the other shorter 32 rounds in one gun would make it hoot to shoot.  Ammo cost is not a real issue since I reload and would probably start casting my own bullets. Has anyone done a 32 H&R or 327 Mag barrel?  If so, so, did you go .308 or .311 bore?

Several of us have discussed this now and then. The 32/20's were made from 303 barrels that were stubbed I think, and were 311 0r 312. I have a 32/20 contender, they used 308 barrels. If you were shooting long ,heavy for diameter bullets that were jacketed, you might have some problems . The 32's that shoot 311- 312 dia short pistol bullets have no problem in a 308 barrel, the only difference I noticed was that you needed to change the expander on your die set, and the RCBS set I bought came with both a 308 and 311 expander from the factory. My cast I shoot both 309 sized, and 310=312 unsized as cast and tumble lubed with no problem. I would loved for someone to have ordered enough to have a run made of any one of the "32's", I would buy any of them.

This is the only reason for my interest in the 300AAC as I have posts here, because I dont want to have to do a stub for a smaller than 357 round. I hope you get one, I will watch with interest. :)

Years ago I had a .22 Hornet rebored to .32 H&R Magnum. Purpose was a small quiet meat gun. Don't see the point of a .327 as it wouldn't kill any deader without tearing up a lot of meat.

True, the 327 is exactly like the 357 Max, the reason some go to it is because they can also use 357 Mag and 38 special.
