Herters Neck Sizer
« on: July 02, 2012, 04:17:07 PM »
Ok, so I'm a newb at reloading, but wanted to try out neck sizing for my .223.  Found a Herters neck sizer online/used and purchased it sight unseen.  What I received was far different than what I was expecting.

The sizer is set up for something other than a threaded press.  The outside is smooth with a flange piece at the bottom, and there is what I can assume to be a rod for a bushing threaded in from the top.  Anyone familiar with these?  Anyone have a use for it?  I'll try to get some pictures as soon as I can.

Thanks,
Anonym

Looks like you've just got an insert for the .223, rather than the whole die.

But either way, you haven't got the whole sandwich there !

This is the Universal neck sizer;

And here's a neck sizer insert for conventional die;

Ano- Herter's went out of business in the mid 1960's so it will not be easy to find the other pts. in good condition. The thing to do is go to the Midsouth website and order a Redding 223 Rem. neck sizer die. My 2011 Catalog says $28.00 MOL w/o shipping. You will be far ahead of anything that Herter's ever offered and you have a factory guarantee as well as resale value. (Sorry no virgins on the internet!) -Muddy

Thanks guys.  Well, if anybody has one of those old die bodies, let me know if you want to get rid of it or need a 223 neck sizer!
