Any load info? Bullet weights, velocities, etc.? Why is it better or worse than a 30-30?
I don't offer load data on public forums, but it is available with some research.
Better or worse is entirely speculative and in the eye of the beholder. Doesn't take much to improve on the old "rainbow" 30-30 that I grew up with though.
Add that something different has always appealed to me and you end up with as many barrels as I did.
The 30TC would gain on the old 30-30 with its short/fat case in better accuracy and far more punch. TC claims its equal to the 30-06 and will drive a 150g 2950fps (I presume with factory ammo). That's about a 30% or more gain over a 30-30 I'd guess. Some claim it will even surpasses the 30-06 both in speed and accuracy with handloads (shoot flatter).
The 30TC/U absolutely shines with the cast bullets it was designed for to shoot silhouettes with, and as I found with jacketed bullets it was also deadly in windy conditions on predators at longish ranges. Recoil has never been an issue for me, not with hand or long guns. But less is conducive of better shooting and so shot placement in general IMO. I don't load cartridges down, including the 30-30, so the 30TC/U filled the bill.
Naturally YMMV, but for my uses the 30TC/U was a far better choice than the 30-30.
