??????? WHAT IS IT ????????
« on: January 27, 2004, 06:34:22 AM »
I have a military rifle that has been around for ever.It is missing bolt and clip. The only markings are on the barrel. They are "1950 VIII" and the serial #F7003.It is a carbine and shoots a very short round,I believe to be 6.5mm.(by looking). The opening where you put the clip is only 1 1/4" long.  :?  :? Can take pics if someone will post for me.

        Thanks In advance!!

a short carbine "bolt action" I assume?

Do a search on the internet for a Spanish "Destroyer" carbine.
and see if that is it.
It actually fires a 9mm Largo cartridge.

Go to Gun Broker, Auction Arms, and Guns America,  Type in -  1950 VIII in the search and see if what comes up matches yours.  Then type in greek and see if anything comes close.

Whitecloud;
Go to one of these web sites and see if this is what you have!
I have one of the Destroyer carbines, it's a really fun gun to shoot!

www.9mmlargo.com/cartridge  and go down and click on Destroyer carbine!

You can go directly to the picture of the carbine!
Go to: www.9mmlargo.com/destroyer/index.htm

I hope this helps you out a little!  At least you will know whether you DO or DON'T have one of these!

If you do, dig around on this site and you will find a lot of resourses available!

well I think we have it!! It is I am 98% sure a 6.5mm Carcano calvery carbine.Guns mag just happened to run an article on the Carcanos this month,So it was a good read.glad I get this one. This is the info I have:

The model 91 calvery carbine was first adopted in 1893,in 6.5mm and was superceded by the model 38 in 7.35mm in 1938.
The calvery carbine was changed back to a 6.5mm(from a 7.35) in 1940.They appear with both fixed and adj sights, zeroed at 200 yrds.It sports a 17 3/4" barrel and is 36" overall, weighing in at just under 7 lbs..
ALL of these spec hold true for mine. The wood to metal fit is SUPERB for a military weapon,The bore is XXFine surface rust on metal. This thing reminds you of an over bored 10/22.

So there we have it. Now I need to know where to find a bolt, clips and rear sight.

Side note: On nov 22 1963  Lee Harvey Oswald using a 1938 model Carcano in 6.5x52 alledgelly assassanated John F Kennedy.

One question? How does this coorespond to the opening for the magazine being 1.25 inches long? The opening for a 51mm case has to be 2.5 inches or probably 3.
