Results for 35 Reminton short +p

 Ok my fellow statesmen, thought I would give you guys some inspiration!? Sent the frame in and recieved my new barrel back in 10 days. A buddy at work has a custom reloading shop, so I had him trim my brass and bought RL7 and primers from him. 1st 2 shots to check scope went about 1.1". Moved scope and 2 more went 3/4". 1.795" barss, winchester LRP, and Hornady 180 gr. SSP. This was at 100 yards. Looks like a trim job didn't hurt accuracy at all and I can't wait to get some more time to shoot.

I like the 200 g RN a little better and had best consistancy with Leverevolution powder. Vel was 2170 fps. Keep posting your results. I too am always looking for the perfect cartridge.

Sounds like it is a .35 Rem trimmed down to 1.795" for the Indiana 1.8''/.35 cal rule, and loaded to regular .35 Rem velocities. I have also thought about trying that, but my .357 Max velocities are about the same as that and I also have a Herrett carbine barrel to try out which should out tun it by quite a bit.

The +P sounds like Super 35 Rem loads to me, the 180gr SSP and RL7 loads run 2450fps in my 22" Handi.  I suspect the 200gr FTX would provide better terminal performance for the ~2400fps velocity tho, not so fragile.

Tim sir, as usual, you are correct. I am going to try the 200 gr. flex tips but all I have on hand is the SSPs.

If the FTX factory loads are loaded with brass that is shorter than ordinary .35 Remington brass,does anyone know how close they are to the magical 1.80?

Not short enough, 1.910" per Hornady.

Hornady does trim some brass for their FTX loads, but it appears 35 Remington is not one of them.

Given that the shortened case does not require bullets to be seated deeper, the standard data can still be used.  The internal volume is not changing, hence pressures will remain the same.

The only question about these cases was potential accuracy issues with such a short neck.  Fortunately, just as the 357 B&D and 358GNR have short necks, and still shoot quite well, the 35 Remington-Short (+P or otherwise) has proven to be plenty accurate.  Keep in mind that this cartridge is still going to be limited to around 200 yards, so even if you're only getting 2" groups at 100 yards, that is still perfectly sufficient for hunting deer.

Finally got to shot the 200 gr. flex tips. Shoot great. Did not chrono but if it comes close to book velocity, I have a good deer load for this year.

I have 6 "short" rounds loaded up with the FTX and LeveRevolution (whatever the charge is listed on the bottle) and hope to get in a trip to the range this weekend.  This will be for the wife, so not looking for top velocity, just top accuracy.  Don't get me wrong, I am going to see what the best accuracy for the higher velocities is going to be.  But for now, she needs an accurate, low recoil load.  I have also considered going to a 180 grain bullet to decrease recoil, but I really want to see what the FTX does in accuracy and recoil as I think it is a superior bullet for the .35 Remington velocities.

41.4 grains of LeveRevolution and 200 grain FTX bullets makes 2183 fps out of my .35 Remington Handi Rifle .  Kicks a little more than what I think the wife will tolerate on the range for several shots, so I am going to reduce the load some and shoot again sometime to see where I can get the recoil level to.  This was the first time at the range with this rifle so I was adjusting the scope with these shots and not trying for groups.  After I find a range load for the wife I will start working back up to find the best velocity and group combo for hunting (she will never know the difference when she is shooting it in the woods  ).

EDIT:  2183 fps was measured at 15' from muzzle.  That should be 2196 fps muzzle velocity.

I was a litle surprised by the recoil as well. It is very manageable but something I didn't prepare for the 1st couple shots. My groups are very good and when I" can get with my buddy, I'll let everyone know the speed.

41.0 LVR powder only dropped the 200 FTX to 2168 fps @ 15', but it is also over a 100 degrees right now.  Maybe have to just drop the charge more and worry about the chrono results when it is not so hot.

Using the Super 35 Rem loads, RL7 will push the 200gr Rem PSP to 2350fps easy, but I got the best accuracy at 2250fps in the Handi, less than a ½" at 100yds.

Thanks, Quick.  I downloaded that Super data, but I am looking for a fairly accurate LOW recoil load for my wife to shoot at the range to get her more comfortable with the rifle.
