Both my Ruger and Handi .308s are very accurate with 168 gr. boat tails over Varget at just sub-maximum loads ~2700 fps.

I have been shooting the same load for almost 20 years. My uncles have been shooting it since the 50's.

IMR 4320 powder, a CCI 200 primer and a 165G Speer bullet.

This load has accounted for Carabou, Mule deer, Sheep, Elk, Bear, Whitetails, a even Moose. Along with too many small critters to know/remember or mention. Its shot countless small groups from at least a doz different rifles, from as many shooters. ;)

You may 'try' to collect data for your reloading-friend and decide what components you want him to use, but for him to really know what he's doing he'll have to handle and shoot your gun!  As he tests his reloads.  No way you can 'splain' everything to him if you want maximum [good] results.

If he shoots the .308, what works well for him?  Why not copy that?
