I'm just setting up a White Tail Hunter in 6.5x55. I plan on using Lapua 108's and 139's. Can I get any help on load data. I'm using Lapua Cases. I have loaded the 260 before but would like to borrow some experience from those of you that have it with this caliber. I planned on using H4350 with the 139's but was told it wouldn't be the best choice for the 108's. Thanks

I've fired a heck of a lot of 108's with 36 grains of Rl 15. This is a fairly mild load, around 2550 in my rifle. There are several powders in this speed range (fast for the cartridge) that will give good results with loads in this range.

I`ve had problems knocking down rams with 155gr.sierra`s going 2700fps.

Bill,

Slow your 155 Sierra load down to 2,550 fps. I shoot that bullet out of my Swedish Mauser at that velocity and there has never been a ram rung even at ranges that are notorious for rung rams.

By slowing down the bullet you are improving the dwell time of the bullet as it blows up on the ram. This increased dwell time improves the bullet's ability to tip over a ram.

One other issue, what is your barrel's twist? If it is too slow your bullet will have a low actually BC due to bullet yaw. That translates into a very rapidly slowed bullet.

Dan I thought that most shooters use a 139 -141 gr bullets for the rams. I haven't heard of many using the 155's. Is there any gain in using the 155 over the 139's? Bill R
