First Build Question.
« on: July 19, 2012, 05:43:35 AM »
Sending in a receiver that I purchused here on the classifieds but have an issue.  Have a stock and four arm off another Handi in a 223 that I put a calapsable stock on, for my nieses and nephew so they could enjoy it to.  I wanted the 22 hornet or the 204 no luck. I have not checked to see if these are in stock yet but I am debating, Between the 35 whelen, the 44 mag and the 45-70 which one would be more fun.  I know I whent from one end of the spectrum to the other but since I am not building a crow and racoon gun I fugured how about something to take hog hunting.  This gun may make a trip for something bigger in the future but for now I want something that is fun to play with for steel targets and hogs.

Oh and my wife thanks everyone for my new addition. HAHA.

WELCOME!

Well, all three are up to the hog hunting task....

My choice of the three would be the 45/70 followed closely by the Whelen.

But if you have a handgun or three in 44 a H&R like chambered is a nice addition too.

Good luck,

45/70 is the best in my book. The 44mag is good if you have a pistol in it like CW was saying.

No pistol but would be a good excuse to get one though.  Still after looking at balistics and researching each they all have there pro's and little cons other than I want all three now.  Still undecided.

How mean is the recoil on the 45-70 shot a 35 rem and it had a prety rough bite to it in a lever action. Just wondering.

My 14 year old daughter  shoots one. Its a good punch its like driving a big block. Recoil is what it is and you just gave to go with it and keep it in the pocket. The 44 and 35 are about the same. Do not fare recoil, it will make you inaccurate. If anything just stand to shoot it the first couple times and do not hold the forearm to tight. If you are going to hunt with it,you'll never feel it.

Build on hold I have found a new 22 hornet for sale and had to get it. Been told that they may not make the hornet any more so instead of building the 45-70 I am buying the hornet.  I am using the excuse it is for my son that will be one next month.  But wonce I sell a couple more guns I will build the 45-70 and keep it in the loop.  So thanks for all the help.
