? for Randy Wakeman
« on: February 05, 2004, 12:01:45 PM »
I have been looking and reading at this site for a few weeks and I finally decided to register.   I am new to inline muzzleloaders as I just purchased a T/C Omega after using a T/C White Mtn Carbine for about the last 12 years.   I plan to shoot 777 powder and Dead Center sabots.  My 2 questions concern the breech plug.

1.  Just how tight do you tighten the plug?

2.  Where can you purchase the anti-sieze you mention in your thread concerning cleaning the inline?

Fingertight. Toby Bridges likes to say "as tight as you darn well want, you are the fellow that has to get it out!", you just want it fully seated, but any more is needless.

Anything listed as SOLUTION 1800 -GENERAL PURPOSE ANTISEIZE -
(MIL-A-907-E) is fine. The Never-Seeze part # is NSBT-8 (Brush Top 8 oz.).

An interchange is listed here: http://www.mrosolutions.com/intrchng.htm your local auto supply house will have one of them, whether branded under Loctite / Permatex / Never-Seez.

I have a question for Randy Wakeman also...
==============================================

What happened to my screen name photo... you know... that real fat guy with the huge belly?

I went to my "profile" section... could not find anyway -shape - or form of how to re-insert it. It seems all options for URL pictures have been dismissed.... yet Underclocked & you get to keep your pics/photos.

That's discrimination.
If my pic was offensive & removed.... I should of been asked to remove & insert a different photo by personal email instead.

Why do you use picture belittling another person, that may not be able to help the way they look, as an avatar anyway?  Consider that person has a mother and a father and perhaps brothers, sisters, or maybe a family of their own.  Also consider God loves THEM just as much as He love YOU.  That's bothered me from the first time I saw it being done.  In my book that doesn't look good for a high school student to do, much less a grown man.  FWIW.

I have no idea-- you can PM Graybeard if you want, but I have no access to avatars, profiles, etc.

VAH, Randy likes the anti-sieze, while others have found success with teflon tape (pink or yellow) and a little breech plug grease on the first few threads. Some folks have found anti-sieze does not work for them, while I do not recall but one person who has said that teflon tape and breech plug grease did not work for them.

I personally use the yellow tape for gas lines, I got it from Lowes, it is a lttle thicker than the pink. I have never had a problem removing the plug, even after 50+ shots with 777. I do remove the plug after my last shot at the range just to be safe. If not, I have found it is more difficult to remove later.

Tighten the plug finger snug, any tighter and you risk a stuck plug. I even back off a 1/4 turn on one of my ML's, with no problems.

Hope this helps.

T7, Maybe GB made some bandwidth cuts???  I dunno, maybe he hates you.

My thoughts on plugs are congested but I'll suggest the solution may be slightly different for each rifle.  Randy likes the Bostik Never-Seize - - I bought some, thought I was never going to get the plugs out!  It's all in how you hold yer mouth er sumpin.  Teflon tape has been my sure-fire for every rifle except my Huntsman.  It doesn't like the tape at all.

The best cure seems to be not to shoot Triple7 (the powder).   :?
