A friend of mine showed up at the range with a Taurus .38 Special revolver. He was shooting Federal 130 grain softnosed ammo. In one chamber the jacket jammed in the front end of the chamber and the core was gone. The brass came out looking normal in all respects. He couldn't figure it out and neither could I. Any ideas, anyone?

It may have been a case were the jacket cup had either a very thin bottom or none at all and the charge pushed the core right out of the jacket , if it only happened once , I'd not be too worried , if it happens again with that ammo check the rounds , also check to see if its happening in the same chamber .

If it happens more than once, it is time for a call to the ammo manufacturer for further instructions, which might well include a quick trip for that piece to the Smith.
