I have hunted with my Grizzly for a year now but have not had a decent shot.  Here are the loads I have tested.  All reloads.

The 45 Win Mag is a great round. I had an LAR Grizzly, wish I never sold it now.

I have a Contender with a 45 WM barrel, I shoot a 230 gr. FMJ, HP, with 20.0 grs of blue dot, 1430 FPS 36,000PSI Win brass. I have shot them in his LAR and it felt like I was shooting regular 45 acp.
I am going to use it for deer season this year. I will let you all know how it turns out.

I had one back in the 1980's - basically a 1911 on steroids.  Nice gun, and would have made a good whitetail pistol, but I was doing a lot of gun trading back then, and traded it off for a S&W 29, if I remember right.  Wish I had kept it.  Out of curiosity, what medium are you using for bullet testing?  I think I only ever fired FMJ RN out of mine.  How is the functional reliability with the various bullets you have tested?  I was considering picking up another one, as a change of pace from the revolvers I usually use for big game hunting.

The only functional problems I am having but have cured with a stronger main spring.  I am shooting thru 1" of plywood and 8-10 water filled 1 gallon oil jugs.  The win mag is a far cry from a 1911 on steriods.  Bunches more power and speed.  Unique power is working out for the best powder.

I am a big fan of the 45 mag. I shoot it in a Contender as well as having a 45 mag. cylinder for my FA 454. Have had good success with blue dot and Hornady 250's as well as Nosler 260 partitions. An LBT 300 WLN-GC has also worked well.
