Way to go jef. The reason i'm here is because of your message on another board. This is a great site. Take care.

I ran across a note from Duce looking for where everyone went and came right over and promptly registered.  I've been meaning to register over here for quite awhile but just never have.  Guess I'll have to start posting in the single action revolver, dan wesson, small game, turkey, preditor, rimfire, ruger, ...... forums.  After I post a few here first of course.

Oh well, I guess I'll never get anything done.

Later,

Thanks, Jeff223 and Greybeard. Sorry I'm running a little late, but I was busy rounding up what I could of our lost flock. Heard Jeff was over here, taking care of things so I was in no hurry.

I think we are doing pretty good. Between AR and here we have at least a couple of dozen already and the names I've seen were pretty much the core of H&R Talk anyway.

Woulda been nice if they had given us a little warning, though.

Hey Leftoverdj glad to see you made it. I still have a lot to learn from you. That really upset me about not giving us a warning. They could have at least done that.

DJ I'm glad to see ya here.  I have some questions I'd like to ask you about the conversion from .223 Rem to .223 AI.

I will get into that after we have a chance to get settled in though

Oh yeah, I think that the guy who lost his job was Varmit Controller.  Correct me if I'm wrong.  Anyone have an email addy for him?

I Was RMT on the H&R forum and thanks to Jeff223 I found this. I only got to enjoy the H&R forum a month or so but the guys were so helpful that it is nice to see familiar names here.

I have already e-mailed H&R/NEF and let them know that I think they were making a mistake. I really think their sales must have boomed with all the talk about barrels and guns, I just can't figure how this could be a good business move for them. Heck, they could have hired a full time Moderator for all the business the forum must have brought them. I e-mailed them last night and this was their response about the forums.

"sorry this was a marketing decision and the site will not be brought back"

I don't think they will bring it back but you can e-mail them and let them know what you think.

I almost forgot, Thanks Graybeard for the Forum and thanks to Duce and Mac for Moderating!

It is so good to be part of a group of folks, that when something rough happens, pull together and try to help as many as possible weather the storm.  Makes one feel good inside.

I think that over time, H&R/NEF will find this decision to be one of the worst they have ever made.  If there was some trouble with all the talk of reloading and rechambering and such it would have been a simple matter to have notified  us so that some solution could have been reached. It is such a typical reaction of corporate America today, to decide what is best for the company while leaving the customers hanging in the breeze, perhaps in this case their best and most dedicated customers. While I will continue to use the arms and help out best I can those new to these rifles, I do not  at present think well of H&R1871 or the parent company Marlin.  I have not yet decided if I will ever buy a new arm from either of these companies.

I wrote them last night too, no response as of yet. Marketing decision, so I quess we were hurting their sales. Well I knew about the barrel accessory program in 1996 when I got my first Handi, but didn't decide to buy any 'til after about a year of discussion on their forum getting advise/input from the members there. You know I would have liked to see them offer other calibers, and maybe the talk about it sounded negative to them and they thought it drove people who came to the forum to other makers. Naw, I don't buy that either. Sound marketing decision, yep that's more like it.  :(

BTW, when I wrote I was polite and thanked them for the time they allowed us to enjoy the forum. I asked if there was any way we could obtain the email addys of our new friends that we had made there and did not know how to contact, and told them I wished they had given us a little notice so we could have made arrangements to stay in contact.

I will tell you this, in speaking with one of their C/S reps., the forum was viewed as a waste and caused problems, and to quote him he said " I wish they'd get rid of it." I don't know if this was the consensus among the C/S personnel or just his opinion. This conversation took place last week, and now it's gone.

I'm not into correcting, but we had two that had the initials 'V/C', one was as you said 'Varmint Controller' and the other was 'Varmint Caller'. I think that's right, and ya'll please correct me if I'm wrong. And for sure I can't remember which was is from TX. Later, Ya'll.

.308, you may not be into correcting, but sometimes I need it

For some reason my memory is keying on the "VC" initials.  And I don't think he was from Texas.  He was from somewhere like Illinois or Iowa, but he was going down to Texas to hunt.

Yeah, that's right he was going to TX to hunt pigs. Think initials were VC, and I remember it was confusing, cause we had two with those initials.  8)

Varmit Controller is from Maine. I know only because I bought the stock set that he posted on the H&R site. I think it was Varmit Caller that lost his job.

Good, hope you can get ahold of him (Varmint Controller) for us, if you don't mind. Wlscott and I have sent Varmit Caller email, wouldn't hurt if a you did too. BTW, didn't know there were either 'Rednecks' or 'Republicans' in Delaware. :)   We got plenty of both down here below the Mason-Dixon line. :D
