May I ask how many of yopu guys or gals have bad experience with Thompsons and what they were, as opposed to CVA and Traditions problems. How many of you who bought Traditions or CVA and were unhappy within a brief period due to quality issues?

Its looks like most Savage fans are happy with their smokeless/black powder guns, or what do you call them?   ;D

I have had great experiences with the T/C Encore's and Omega ML's. As for my Savage, I call it a muzzleloader, I load it from the muzzle, other than the smokeless powder nothing is different. Oh and I don't have to clean it like a muzzleloader.

I have had good luck with alot of different muzzle loaders I've owned, each takes time to find what it likes best to make it accurate. Out of about 15 that I've had the only one that ever gave me trouble was a tc scout back when they first came out,I should have known there was something wrong with it when I got it at a yard sale for $60. I would have to say my favorite would have to be traditions in either bolt or brake action.

My Savage ML2.  Smokeless and proud.  Easy to clean and accurate.

In case you want to know the correct way of measuring a target group, yours is wrong, but probably close. The correct way is to measure the longest sides complete distance then subtract the size of your bullet. If it 50 cal, then the group size, example> 1.137 minus .501

Well isn't that nice of you to point out to me that I am "wrong", maybe I would be wrong if you in fact were to see any writing on that target.
Thanks for the math lesson that you felt so compelled to give but just so you know, I already knew what the correct way to measure a group.

That's a Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42mm LRS B-Blex sitting in Warne rings and bases. It has the adjustable parallax, digital dimmer and a 3" sunshade that I added with the thoughts that it might help keep the rain off the front lens.

Sometimes the best way to see what a firearm is really worth is to see how folks vote with their wallet, especially when they aren't being made anymore.  The Savage went out of production for a while due to low sales volume.  Savage as a months long backlog of orders for several rifle models and most especially in stainless so they felt they couldn't justify leaving the tooling set up.

After a lot of requests the rifle is back in production but only in blued steel with either the black or camo stock-no stainless steel and no laminate stocks.

You can buy a factory laminate stock from one of the folks who bought up the remaining inventory when Savage first ceased production but the last time I saw those they were approaching $400.

I bought my stainless and laminate 10ML 4-5 years ago in the $650 price range.  Right now there is a used one on Gunbroker at $1,000 with some time left on the auction.  Not too long ago a stainless thumbhole laminate one like rick59 has went for well over that and a stainless one with camo stock is on GB at $900 and climbing.

While researching for a possible article last month I talked to Joe DiGrande of Savage and he states that they will not rule out some stainless/wood rifles in the future but it would be hard to justify given the long backlog of cataloged stainless steel rifles.

The best I can offer to someone who might want one is to talk to the major retailers and express your interest.  Joe said that if they had enough firm commitments for orders that Savage would be much more likely to put stainless/laminate rifles into some sort of limited production.  Still I wouldn't hold my breath due to the back order situation.

Geez I cant vote, I have a knight disk ex 45cal ,h&r sidekick ,cva accura ,cva optima elite with a 50 and 45cal barrels and a new cva apex in 50cal and they all shoot. For the guys bragging about their 10ml2s The only modern inlines that I had that didn't shoot were two savage 10ml2s one synthetic and one laminated stainless both barrels were the worse barrels I have ever seen in any modern gun in my life very rough and tapered I couldn't get them to shoot. The synthetic stock on the one I wouldn't have been happy with that on a BB gun very cheap. And most modern inline barrels now are made from heat treated rifle grade steel that's just as good as the savage and with blackhorn 209 your doing the same thing and its very clean and easy to clean. ;)

My cheapest is still my best; CVA Wolf.  Love that light weight short barrel for deep woods deer.  Wish more options were available but I don't see how any improvements can be made for my style of hunting.

I had a CVA Optima. Sold it and bought a 209 x .50 barrel for my T/C Encore. I'm very happy with it. I like it so much I'm concidering using it during regular Firearms Season instead of my .270 barrel.  :)
