Hi NEF H and R guys (gals ?) anyway I bought a used 223 today going to be my coyote gun. I dont know what  twist rate this thing has, so no idea what wieght bullet to try. would really appreciate  ammo advise. I am going to get this thing going and be tipping over those yotes as soon as I can. maybe more barrels later. Thanks in advance.

Hello Maine Woods, your .223 has a twist rate of 1 in 12" and likes the lighter wieght bullets, 53-55 grainers seem to work fine for me. I usually hunt coyotes off the Golden road north of Millinocket and around the Abol Bridge. Had some good luck there last year but am stuck inside recuperating from a hip replacement about a month ago.................Sooo, no snowshoeing for me this year. You should love that .223 Handi, its a great coyote gun....<><.... :D

He's right, 1 in 12 twist and lighter bullets.  Mine loves 50 grain Hornady V Max bullets.  

They're great little guns.  Here's my coyote rig;

 



Ultra Varmit in .223 with a Springfield Armory 4-16X56mm scope.

Hey there Maine Woods  :D

Try the Winchester 45 grain hp value pack in the white box from Wally World. (40 in a box) They shoot good in my ultra 223 Hope this helps 8)

It's actually an older SB2.  You can't find 'em with the blond laminate anymore.

Maine Woods,
  Good luck with loading your .223. I just started working on loads for the .223 Ultra. I started using military surplus ammo, 55 gr. just to sight in the gun and get it on paper at 50 yards. It shot a 7/8" group which isn't that great for the .223. I then shot my first string of Sierra 53 gr. reloads, and dropped the groups down to 7/16". A big difference, and with just my first run a loading for it. I have a lot of playing to do yet, but now I can move the range out to 100 yards. You'll find there is a lot of throat in these guns. I tried to get the loads to close in on the rifling, but the bullets will drop out of the brass before they'll touch the rifling. As it turns out, my concerns were unfounded.
