Protecting camp from snakes.
« on: August 10, 2012, 12:26:40 PM »
A Native American friend of mine told me that if you take a snake that comes into your camp, burn it up, then spread the ashes around your camp, then no other snake will come into you camp. I asked him if he thought that same trick would work on our southern border, but obviously not using a snake???
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.

How about that old," run a rope around your camp, they wont crawl over it".

Might work if you dust the rope with some burnt snake and powdered sulphur. ear

My BIL is Creek. He says if you catch a snake in your yard, you should take a branch, and whip the snake with it, then let the snake go back into the woods. I guess that one is supposed to tell the others to stay away or they'll get whipped! Generally, snakes avoid people anyway, so it has never really been a problem for me. ;)

Clear the brush, cover or any other trash around your camp. Objective is to remove cover for the snake to hide...plus remove cover for mice or other snake food.

If a snake can't get a meal or hide out it won't be inclined to stay around.

some say if you make a circle around a building out of lime about 6-8 inches wide and heavy snakes won't cross it. At the Southern States store they have a powder in a canister that looks like lime to do the same thing. Wonder if SS adds burnt snake to lime ? hum........ ;D
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I think we are getting in danger here of attracting the ire of the ASBL (Anti Snake Burning League).

i went to lowe's and asked the guy
in the garden section for burned snake
powder like yall said, but he just looked
at me like i was an idiot. i wish they would
hire competent help. i looked for the
burned snake powder on my own for
about ten minutes, but i couldn't find
any. i guess they were out.
is there any other place that might
have it?

i also saw a post about lime for the same
snake- repellent effect.
are you supposed to cut the limes in halves,
or wedges, or do you squeeze the juice out?
seems to me it would take a lot of limes to
do the job, and that might get cost prohibitive.
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

R99, U  R  close. What you burn while you are grilling your snakes you grind for your own burnt snake powder.  After You have mixed your lime and Tequila drink, a favorite with snake, you simpley roast up the lime rind amd mix it with your burnt snake powder. Have fun at your next snake cooking. ear

PS  Sulphur works better than lime for powder on the rope but it makes a real poor drink

Just get one of those "jumpin' bean" terriers.  They will kill any snake that comes around, and tree a tree rat to boot.
