Makes an Old Vet smile.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

"If you won't stand behind our troops, you are more than welcome to stand in front of them."

"Everything I need to know I learned in sniper school"

But personally, I prefer more muted statements like Semper Fi, or Army, or something like that.

"Except For Ending Slavery, Fascism, Nazism and Communism, WAR has Never Solved Anything."

This one is not quite accurate, since communism lives in our own capital.

    There is a lady in our little hamlet who has a sign on her lawn which says;  " War is not the answer"
    So I ask myself... "When we are attacked by fanatical forces bent on their own version of Armageddon and plan on dying to bring it about..just WHAT IS the answer?".
  I see those silly so-called "peace" symbols as well as seeing the word "peace" written in many places.  I always figure a person who displays these things...has to be about 3 French frys short of a "Happy Meal".
  They are saying a completely incomplete thought!  After all, most people appreciate peace, and most would like a world at peace and have complete peace in their personal relationships..but to simply state the single, unaccompanied word.."peace" says absolutely nothing!
    When I see one of those imbecilic symbols, I would have one question for the one who displays it...     " OK: now just how do we convince Al Queda, the Taliban & Iranian mullahs of the wisdom of "peace"?

Ironglow:

The question you posed isn't the question she's thinking about. Lately, war has been the answer to the question of "how do I distract attention from the Monica scandal?", "How can we look important by sending people to die in a military effort for which we have no national interest?", "How can we turn what should be a brief post-9/11 show of force into a perpetual and worthless war that keeps money flowing into Washington, and which even the commanders can't relate to the mission of?"

Fact is war has been abused badly since about 1965, and almost every American soldier that has died or been wounded in the line of duty during the past 10 years has died or been wounded for nothing except some politician's ego trip. War is the answer to your question, but not to the many other questions to which it's applied.

War is used for so many things now we couldn't even begin to defend against a real invasion because our military has become so expensive and inefficient. The iraq and iran wars were pretty small scale operations, and look at them squeal about how it's cost over a trillion dollars and accomplished almost nothing.

It used to be true that the military was considered the only effective arm of government. I'm not so sure that's true anymore.

Of course the military has downgraded; look at what is the CIC.  If he gets another term it will be the end of our military and our country.

  Conan;
   I cannot disagree with you that some politicians may well have used war as a distraction, you are probably correct there.
  However(and this is not directed at you specifically)..
    Say you or I are the C-in-C and an attack occurs which is as devastating as was 9/11.  We already know these theo-fanatics will not stop.. which was made completely obvious by the willingness of 19 of their number to be "incinerated for Allah".

      For all doubters... How would you stop this fanatical, death-desiring enemy?
  Don't give me "conspiracy" since most non-bigoted reject that claim.. and don't give me "diplomacy".. once you are attacked..i.e. 9/11 or Pearl Harbor..it is all to clear, the time of diplomacy is past    So what would you do?

  Incidently, our military is very effective..so long as the politicians don't interfere.  Incidently, isn't it interesting that Obama in his so-called "budget cuts".... will be cutting perhaps the only part of the federal government which operates efficently.

   Below; see Obama's plans for the military...gotta give the money to the welfare queens ;
