Any of you happen to know the muzzle diamiter of the Winchester featherweight. I get just over 1/2 inch but I dont have the best device to messure. Im wondering if it is .575 inches or more. Im trying to find out what kind of barrel conture the fwt has to decide if I want to free float or full glass bed the bbl.

Thanks Lloyd. How do you have your action and bbl. bedded? Im asking because I have never achieved less than 1.5" groups and that was with lead ammo and only Win Silver tips. Most groups I get are over 2" and my lead free crap shoots a 3 shot string on about 3" +. I have been reading about bedding ,floating etc. and I hear you treat Fwt. bbls(less than .575") differently.

the factory glass bedding is a joke. Its about like a hard rubber and has way to much give to it. I scraped and ground it all out and bedded the back tang and recoil lug and floated the barrel. My 280 is eaisly a moa shooter with loads it likes.

my push feed 6mm Rem is about 0.56" or 0.57". It was originally bedded by the factury with a pressure point between the barrel and the stock, at the tip of the forend. It would not shoot worth a hoot. Now, it has pillars and glass bedding, with the tube free floated all the way to the receiver. Wonderful job by Hill Country Rifles. Rifle shoots sub-MOA with prefered loads.
