Why do barrels need to be fitted?

I was just wondering, why do barrels need to be fitted. You can just go out and buy rossi wizard barrels and TC barrels. It's not like were talking a custom built by hand rifle here. Just curious.

Because the tolerances on H&R's are not good enough.

What Airsporter said, if they were made to the tolerances that TCs are made to, they'd cost as much as TCs.

I wouldn't set any store in Wizard interchangability, I've tried two barrels, one fit, the other didn't come close to fitting  the same frame, one was an ejector, the other an extractor.  ::)
