Fun at the range
« on: July 21, 2012, 02:37:43 PM »
My son and I went to the range today and I finaly got to sight in the new .50 barrel I got for my Encore. The target was turned on it's side so the two holes you see are top in the bullseye. At 100 yards I think this will do just fine and I'm very happy with the barrel. :) I've long wanted the .50 barrel and am quite excited to now be able to muzzleloader hunt too with my Encore.
100 grains 777 pushing a 245gr Power Belt at 100 yards, bench rest.

My favorite rifle. :) I have a .270 barrel for it too.

I would be happy with that accuracy and I think you found a good load.  I use something similar in a sabot for my deer load.  Since I can't use sabots when elk hunting in CO, I use the 338 gr platinum power belts and 100 gr of 777 in my encore.   The average distance three elk traveled after being hit in the lungs was about 10 yards.   The distances shot were 40 yds, 65 yds, and 124 yds.  The bullets were complete pass throughs on two cows and was just under the skin on the off side of a 5x5 bull.

My Pro Hunter likes a max charge of T7 and 250gr SST with Harvester sabot. The TC Shockwaves (Hornady SST) shot good as well.
I'm down to just one bbl now, .300 Win mag. Still working up loads with 168gr TSX/R22

Decent shooting there Spirithawk, plenty good for making meat.  Ive always wanted a 50 cal bbl for my pro hunter, unfortunately Im going the other direction with my firearm ownership.

Cheers
