a 410 slug gun
« on: October 01, 2012, 12:56:23 AM »
A few years back I built a 410 slug gun on a Moslin action. I had it chambered in 2 1/2 in. wanting to use brass cases which would be the equivelant of a .405 Win., Teddy`s favorit African plains gun. Well they woun`t let me use all brass cases so I shelved that project for seversl years. Now with the 2 oldest grandkids,11 and 13, wanting to hunt I brought it back out. I pulled the barrel and reamed it on out to 3 in. and started loading some ammo. My barrel is a Douglas supreme with a .411 bore. I tried 240 and 270 Leadhead HCGC bullets and some 210 Hornady XTP bullets. All of them running around 1,300 fps. The Hornady`s were clearly the worst and the 270`s the best. I got the old milatry stock out and took it to the table saw where I cut abt. 3 in. off the back and 6 in off the frount. It wears a Leupold Vari X lll 1 1/2 x 5 scope and is ready for a shake down run by the kids to see if I need some recoild reduction.

Catfish,

Glad to hear your 410 bolt gun is alive and well.  Are you using brass/plastic hulls or all brass?  Loaddata, targets, pics etc. are mandatory! ;D

I have a 410 fully rifled lever gun (Marlin) in the prototype stage.  Maybe with Jedman's fully rifled 410 pump gun we can have a little friendly competition at the spring shoot?  I hate to loose, any idea how best to bribe stimpylu? ::)

I`m useing plastic hulls. As for pictures I`m to lazy to try to figure out how to do it. You can see it at the spring shoot, if I don`t forget it again.  :'(
