Remington 700 SPS in 7mm STW?
« on: September 02, 2012, 03:08:07 PM »
I think this is my next itch to be scratched. Anyone want to give me opinion about the rifle or that round? I reload so ammo won't be an issue.

It is a great round for the handloader & you get about as much from the caliber that you can. The RUM is too much of a good thing in my view & offers very little unless you load 180 Berger or heavier speciality bullet with a fast twist.

I don't like the stock on the SPS, but some have bedded it. Hard to go wrong with a 700 action though.

You might contact Lloyd to see what loads he likes now.

The round is very popular in my area & the 140BT is the going Deer load. Most of my friends are partial to H1000.
Good luck

what i settled for is a 150 ballistic tip using re25. It was the best shooting load in my bdl. Well under an inch for 5 shots at a 100 yards. Id bet with someone that was really good with a rifle it would be a 1/2moa load as about half the groups ive shot hover around that. . Ive killed 9 deer with it this year and none took more then a step. Ranges anywhere from 200-450 yards. I dont recall ever not gettting an exit wound with it either. Did i say i love this gun!!

Thanks for the info guys.  I am ordering mine next week.  I already have a few pounds of RL25 and a bunch of 150 gr BT that I have been using for my 7mm-08's.  I think I will start olut working up a load with those two.
