hunting semi auto

looking for semi auto for hunting and backup ; considering glock(20,29?) 10mm ,any ideas for fit, accuracy,ammo,sights, etc?--in the medium price range is glock best choice?

From a accuracy standpoint, I would also look at the Kimber and Springfield offerings with adjustable sights to handle loads of varying bullet weight.

I carry a Springfield Longslide in 45 ACP. It is very accurate.

 Many areas have power/caliber limits on HUNTING guns. I'd use what ever is LEGAL. I like the .45 auto for defense against bad people. I suppose the glock would work for that, but bears and BIG deer MIGHT require more power.

The Glock 20 would be my choice for your application, over the other available 10mm pistols available.  While I like the 1911 platform pistols in 10mm, for open carry in a good holster the Glock carries just as easy as any of them.  With regular mags you have 16 rds of 10mm ready to go vs. 8-9 in the 1911 platform.  The virtually indestructible (Under field conditions) platform and Glock reliability make a heck of field gun. And don't let anyone tell you that Glocks can't be accurate. Mine, and those I've used over the years have been at the very least, acceptably accurate.  Some exceptionally accurate. Six inch hunting barrels, good adjustable sights, and all sorts of goodies are available at reasonable prices. Another good option would be the mdl 21 with the .460 Rowland conversion. You won't be under gunned with either one.

To me the biggest question is what distance? I have taken 3 deer with a 5" 1911 using 230gr JHPs, but they were inside 50 yards. The longest shot I have taken was about 75 yards using a 686 with 158gr JSP. All were 1 shot kills, but the range chosen was appropriate to the accuracy of the gun used and the ammo selected.
