new to trapping

i am new to trapping and i was wondering what a person would need to start.  i will be trapping coyotes and hopfully bobcats any information will be much appreciated. thanks, trace

well i live in southern new mexico there is hills and just flat desert there is dried up washes. for plant life it is just about all greasewood and mesquite. it is all pretty much dry. i dont have any traps and i was wondering what would work best leghold or snares.thanks, trace

check out the cat snaring pictorial essays in earlier strings along this page.
those pictures and comments say a lot right there for areas that sound very similar to the areas you are describing.

I used to live in silver city back in the 60&70s and trapped the burro mt.s
done real good in 74 75 76, prices were real good at that time, cought lots
of yotes and quite a few cats. are you ant where near that area ?"

Hello from another nm traper , I use to trap your area tuli and meckgreor
range . I'd use #3 coils and drags . use the drags because you'll probally
be on public land and some one will steal your sets. If you want good cat
country go to dog canyon . Now the indain was letting trappers on the lower side of nogal canyon there in bent . You can Pm me if you need info
on your country .  I've got all kinds of spots down there . ( I grew up in Ruidoso )
