Fiber Optic Sight
« on: October 13, 2012, 03:50:43 AM »

I have now taken my last 4 shots at deer with the green FA fiber optic front sight and the standard rear.  Three shots were offhand taken kneeling or sitting and one was sitting with my left elbow on my left knee.  All 4 shots were between 55 and 65 yards and all hit within 3 inches of where I was aiming.  I am totally impressed with this sight in the woods.  I don't like the looks as much as a black post but I don't care anymore.  I find that under pressure your eye is still drawn to the front sight which is where it needs to be.  I sight in for my bullets to hit the center of the bead at 50 yards.  That way i can just hold the bead over the vitals and squeeze.  FA makes the best version of the FO bead that I have seen -- it's small and easy to center in the rear sight.  Now I need to figure out how to get them on my Rugers!

I don't like the way they look on the gun either. I will say it looks better than any other FO sight I've seen. It does work really well and I have a custom sight (Clements I think) that I'm going to try out next month. I'll report back my findings after I compare.

I put one of Clements' FO sights on my model 83 last month. I am very happy with the sight. It is a square post with the FO insert just below the top of the post. I am sighted in the with POI at the top of the post, and find the green dot is close enough I can put it just under where I want to hit and I am on target... now, if only I were a better shot!
