I was shooting a model 97 that belongs to a friend, as I am going to be buying one soon in .44 Special. The windage was not correct for me, and I asked my friend, the gun's owner, if he knew how the windage and elevation adjustments worked on the FA. He said that he had never had to make any adjustments, but that he assumed that info would be in the manual. We looked, and could find nothing there related to sight adjustment.
I know the question makes me sound like a dunce, but I'm not quite that. I manage to replace all the rear sights on my Rugers with either Volquartsen of Bowen Field or Rough Country sights and then adjust them to shoot to point of aim, but in looking at the Freedom Arms, I see that it's a different animal, and don't want to be running the risk of doing any harm, such as trying to turn windage or elevation adjustment screws against any set screws, or other such mishaps. I can hardly believe that FA does not adress sight adjustment in their manual. They printed pages just on how to load the blessed thing, but nothing about sight adjustment. I guess the lawyers weren't concerned with that caveat.
Can anyone explain the basics of adjusting windage and elevation on a Model 97 with adjustable sights, and are there any set or locking screws to be concerned about?
Thanks in advance!
