Police: Woman admits to killing grandmother and putting her inside trash can     by Johnny Archer  WHAS11.com Posted on September 1, 2012 at 4:44 PM
Updated today at 7:36 PM    LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Something went horribly wrong in a quiet Okolona neighborhood, something Corey Corum never thought would touch so close to home.

“I knew something bad happened,” said Corum. “Because you might see one or two cops come down this street. [But] you don’t see four or five just rolling up out of nowhere.”

Judge Boulevard became the scene of a heartless murder. Mary McClain was killed in her home Sunday. The next day, her body was found shoved in a trashcan where she lived. Five days later, police identified her granddaughter as the main suspect, 21-year-old Ellen Crawley.

Police were tight-lipped about the case for nearly a week until enough evidence was gathered to make the arrest. Detectives brought Crawley down to metro police headquarters where they say she confessed to murdering her grandmother.

Police say Crawley broke into her grandmother’s home unlawfully and killed her after they got into a fight. They say she then stole money and jewelry from her grandmother’s home.

Corum says he talked to Crawley earlier that day.

“I saw it in her eyes there was something off about her that day,” said Corum. “She kept telling me that she was stressing out.”

Corum says Crawley ran two doors over to his house to use his phone on Sunday. He describes her demeanor as suspicious as she called for a ride, but didn't think his neighborhood would become the scene of a murder.

Crawley faces several charges including murder, robbery, burglary, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse
