357 max chamber throats???

What kind of chamber throat do you get when you rechamber with these reamers?. I was reading on another site wbere the subject of throats was king. They talked about a slopong throat vice the SAAMI tbroat that i guess is like a revolvers chamber. They wewe showing off targets of dime sizex groups wih there prized custom throats. They also were charging about $125 for the recbam er on a hando as it involvex much more effort and equipment to dial in. Are the results of doing it yourself with these reamers comparable to their results. Doing it yourself without a lathe or drill press seems to allow a lot of slop to be allowed into the equation.  Again are the results truly as good as a smith can do?? Thanx,  Larry

 Larry,
  I have found that the GBO reamer provides a rifle bullet type throat and provides good accuracy. However, when a throat is cut for a specific bullet on a lathe that has been set perfectly inline with the bore, results are usually a little bit better. Since there are so many other factors affecting accuracy, the difference is rarely truly witnessed. I have achieved 5/8" groups from my Maxi Handi with a custom throat on a accurized rifle. It's possible that I could do better than that if I could shoot straight and had more experience reloading. I'm just an amateur in both areas. I recommend using the GBO reamer and never looking back. ;)

Thanks guys, I never thought of the stickies though. Should have.. I know many, many things will effect bullet placement and accuracy. Many years ago I Shot competition and we experimented with a lot of things. Recently I was helping a friend who coaches youth small bore teams. WOW! What a new world of shooting. Almost everything we were taught many years ago as the holy grail of shooting has turned around and become obsolete. After the first session with these new ideas at the range I felt really old and useless. I tried some of the ideas they were teaching, not bad. I guess. I guess most of my old ideas were solid at the time but there is always room for improvement. Why frett about a slopong few fractions of an inch off the bench, when we cant place slugs anywhere that close in the field positions. Thanx for the info. Larry

The biggest issue with doing it is not to get too deep once you get to the rim. If the factory rim relief is correct for 357Mag, DO NOT even let the rim cutter portion of the reamer touch down in there. In fact, if you want a 'close chamber', have some loaded up rounds with the longest/heaviest bullet of choice and be test fitting it as you ream and are still a good ways from full cutter depth.
Lots of cutting oil, even, two hand/T handle pressure in a straight line down into a well supported and secure barrel and you are good to go.

put u a gud coat of white-out on your factory rim cut-out.
and stop before you jusa bout scratch it................... ;)
 
this technique has been used since white-out was invented  !! 8)
