357 Mag ammo question
« on: September 19, 2012, 04:44:53 AM »
Hello boys,

Well last year Connecticut pulled enough of there heads outta there butts to pass handgun hunting!! ( STILL not on Sundays, but we can still hope)

It's been a while since I hunted Vermont with my Colt Whitetailer 357 Magnum.  I used to load a 140g HP Speer on top of H110 with a mag primer. Shot good, expanded some and billed a couple deer.  Thinking of using it with the G20 here this season. The G20 will be used if the close opertunities arrives as its open sites. So I'll carry it with the carbine or with this Colt.

Anyhow, I bought a couple boxes of the Hornady 140 FTX thinking it may be good in the Handi as a light bullet... It's not so good. But that's at over 2600 fps from a Maximum in a 22" barrel. I'm thi king it may be better at closer to 1400 from the vented 8" Whitetailler barrel

Has anyone used this bullet? If so what did you find and how did you like it?

Well, I just looked for some data, all the data is for powders I don't use, well I use AA7 and AA9, just loaded the last of that in the 10mm's last month to try...

PLUS, I totally for got the arrogance of Hornady in requiring one to shorten brass to use these bullets... That aint happening.

SO I found one last box of Speer 140's and a new old box of XTP 140G bullets...

Thanks any way guys.
