Cops recover Secret Service truck stolen in Detroit before Joe Biden's Labor Day visit Veep’s appearance was not affected by theft; no weapons inside the stolen vehicle, Secret Service says
Detroit police recovered a Secret Service truck that was stolen in downtown Detroit over the weekend during preparations for a Labor Day visit from Vice President Joe Biden.
Motor City cops found the rented 14-foot U-Haul near Henry Ford Hospital on Monday, the agency told CNN.
Brazen thieves snatched the truck from outside the Westin Book Cadillac hotel on Saturday night and made off with a trove of gear to be used during the veep’s visit.
Cops found some of the equipment in an abandoned house early Monday, while the rest was found inside the ditched truck, the agency said.
The agency wouldn't describe the gear, but said that it didn't include any weapons.
The theft didn’t affect Biden’s appearance.
At noon, he spoke to a lively crowd of 3,500 at an AFL-CIO rally in the city’s downtown.
The truck flap comes one week after a Secret Service agent travelling with Mitt Romney to Indianapolis from the GOP convention in Tampa
left her gun in the plane’s bathroom, where a reporter found it.
