Sorry, I got no pics. Heck, I don't even have the gun back yet but I was too excited so I had to post something! I was having trouble with my Hy Hunter .44's ejector rod houseing. It was shooting off most every session that I took it out. I had tried epoxy, JB weld, and chewing gum. Nothing was working. She only had about one turn of the stud into the barrel and that was not enough to hold it. So I talked to Marshall, my handy local gunsmith, about a repair. He said since the barrel was stripped, he could silver soulder the stud on. Since we basically had to start over, I decided I would have the 'short' barreled .44 I always wanted. I had a couple of Ruger .45 BKH's that were cut to 4" and that length really makes a nice size single action. So I whacked off the barrel to 4 1/8" and fitted the EJH to it and sent it off to him. I called today and he had re-installed the front sight and EJH stud, squared the muzzle and crowned it, and was just cleaning it when I talked to him. He'll get it shipped back out tomorrow! I also found a brass grip frame and trigger guard that I'll put on it when it gets back in a couple days. To say I'm excited is like asking if a fox likes chickens! 44 Man
This is the 'old' (circa 1974) Hy Hunter with it's 6 1/2" barrel. I have always found a 6 1//2" barrel handier than a 7 1/2", but still an awkward length for a holster gun. I much prefer a barrel no longer than 5 1/2", and shorter is even better.
