Hey guys I am using remington hollow points on prarie dogs at anywere from 150-200yds and I hit em but they end up making it back in their hole. I tried using stingers but I useualy shoot a brick every time I go out, Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks guys I appriciate it, Henry.

Yeah, move up to a centerfire for those 200 yard shots. Something like a .22 Hornet for starters. Lawdog

You'd have the same results if you shot them at ten yards with a 22, unless you hit them just right.

I too agree that 200 yards with a .22 LR (Stingers or not) is asking an awful lot, unless you get a lucky head shot.

200 yds is way beyond the limits of the 22 lr on a regular basis, yes you will hit the target on some of the shots but the bullet has lost about all of its ump. by then, move up to a centerfire rifle for the 200 yds. shooting or limit you ranges for the 22 lr to a whole lot less.

I agree with everyone else in that is too far of a shot. But check out aguila(I think that is how it is spelled) for their hyper velocity .22 rounds. I have been very impressed with them.

I would suggest taking standard or high velocity 22 l.r. ammunition (40 gr. bullet) that is the most accurate in your rifle and cutting a 1/8 to 5/32 flat nose on them. The best tool to do this is made by Hanned precision.
Their website indicates they are effective at 200 yards......

"Hand-Made SGB Ammo-- These little guys automatically adapt themselves to the conditions of the strike. The flat point is large enough in diameter that it produces a pronounced "slap" on impact, which under quiet conditions is audible even at 200 yards (and are effective at that distance too). The flat point, in passing through the animal, transmits a wide shock-front which disrupts the function of internal organs without the massive meat damage typical of HP ammo (h.p. ammo won't expand at 200 because of the reduced velocity at that distance.). No mushrooming is needed to produce this high-shock impact, yet the effect is strong enough to anchor small game and small varmints out to well beyond any distance at which you can reliably achieve a body hit on them."

I have shot a number of bullets modified with this tool out to 100 yards and they definitely work well. I have fired some at 200 at targets only and accuracy is good.

I first read about this 10-15 years ago. The author described the terminal performance of this flat nosed .22 bullet on jackrabbits. He described the audible "slap" of the bullet and the fact that most of the jackrabbits he hit expired on the spot, or close to it. According to him, these were much better killers on that animal as compared to .22 l.r. hollow points because jackrabbits hit with them usually ran 50 yards or more before expiring!

I would recommend getting a 17 hmr. I have only shot PD's out about 100 yds and it does a number. I would feel comfortable shooting them at 200-250 yds no problem

Try the CCI Quik Shok. i have blown them in half almost at 150 yards. THey split on impact into 3 different fragments and make three big holes. Also works great on coyotes.

when in doubt empty the magazine.
