hern barrel few questions

Ok i chatted to hern iron works  few months back and now i figureing on another prodject since  my last one is fizzled due to pour vendor more on that later
looking at the hern's barrels and wanted to know any one here shooting one with live fire I dont mind the price but i wantto be able to do more then just blanks. im also waiting to hear back on how the liner is breeched
just so you know im looking at the  rev war howi or the english swivel gun

Hi, I have a Hern barrel and shoot it regularly. They appear to be well made and they do ship when promised.  Finish is as cast and not lathe turned so you may want to do a little smoothing of the exterior (or not) depending on your preferences. There has been some Hern bashing in the past but I have not had any issues whatsoever with their product.  You will have to drill a fuse hole but that is not problem. Not sure what you mean by breeched.

I know they are steel lined with  breech cap atthe end just wondering how this wasdone
do you live fire you cannon as i only want cannons that live fire in my colection

As posted before, read the warrenty. I paid extra for a 3/8 liner got it and everything looked good.After installing a vent liner I was cleaning out the dibris and found that there was a bulge in the linre and it was not concentric with the outside of the barrel. I called Hern three times and was told every time that someone would call. I have never heard from them. As for as thay are concerned you buy a casting,  that is it.

Buzz, the barrel is live fired frequently and has been for several years, no problems. The breech plug is welded in place in the liner and then placed in the mold before pouring the barrel.  Things can go wrong with the process at this point. The warranty states that they will accept the return of any piece that the buyer is unhappy with for any reason which seems fair enough. If you want a cast then bored and sleeved barrel like Southbend then be prepared to shell out the bucks to pay for it. Hern offers an affordable alternative for those willing to accept the compromises inherent in the process that they use.

Yeah they are Cadillacs but you can pick them up used on occasion for substantially less than new prices. I bought a 3/4 scale Southbend 10 lb Parrott last year for 25% of list, just needed painting. Also bought their 1/7 scale Dalgren with carriage for about 35% of current list. Keep looking, they are out there. I'd like to own all premo barrels but it's not going to happen in this life time.
