Blew the breach plug out.
« on: October 18, 2012, 02:43:31 AM »
I have posted a few times on here pointing out the insane designs I find on the INTERNET. Things like a 1.75 bore with an 1/8" plate welded on the end.  I really think its a bad way to do a breach and when I seen this video I know for a fact that its a bad way to do it. This video gave me chills and the hair on my neck and head stood up.

In the absence of much of a smoke cloud, I have to wonder if they were using smokeless powder.  They may have been lucky that just the breech plug blew.

Proof testing the golf ball cannon at the range. 1320 grains of Unique powder, 2 golf balls, a hand full of marbles, and 3x1oz 12 gauge slugs. Blew the breech plug out of it. I want this thing to take 4 times the charge that I'd normally run in it before I consider it safe for use. I'll machine an oversize plug, sweat fit it in and put it to a greater depth before welding. The barrel itself shows no signs of bulging or distortion.

Because the back plate blew off before the pressure was high enough to damage the tube.  Unique!!!!  Why not Bullseye???  They must not have had any.

;D   Something about standing on your head in the shallow end of the gene pool....or was it thinking unintentionally about ways to cull the weakest of the species...this could have gone waaayyyy bad! Tomorrow's headlines? Don't even want to go there....

I thought it was the wax burning off some waterproof fuse...  I have had (and I'm sure many others) waterproof fuse burn off the coating & subsequently had to relight...  but now that Artilleryman has brought it up...  that doesn't appear to be any kind of fuse I recognize.  Or waterproof fuse into an oversized vent (touch hole) so that the flame entered firing it at once.

If these m*r*ns succeed in getting the breech plug to hold...  they'll have the perfect pipe bomb!   Everybody is giggling until somebody gets seriously hurt or killed.
