red dot for T/C
« on: September 13, 2012, 10:58:21 AM »
Hi All,  I'm new here.  Just wondering if anyone has a red dot on their T/C.  I have a T/C Contender, 14" barrel, in 35 Remington.  Real hand cannon, even Magna-ported.  I've gone through 2 - BSA RD30 red dots.  I knew they would not hold up too long, about 100 rounds, but they were cheap.  I'm looking to get a better red dot, but I don't want to break the bank.  From my research, the Vortex Strikefire looks to be in my price range and they say it holds up.  Anyone have any experience with that red dot?  Any comments will be appreciated!  Thanks

I used a Tasco Pro Point on a 14 " 30-30 Contender for years with zero problems. Other opinions will vary but IMHO stay as far away from BSA products as you can. There are much better choices out there. My friend and I have a saying about BSA products, they might make a good tent stake.

After ruining 2 - BSA RD30's, I know I want a red dot and I know I don't want another BSA.  I will look into the Tasco Propoint.  The price being so low, on the Tasco, I didn't even consider it.

With the 35 Remington for long term I would take a hard look at the Ultra Dots.  They start at (I believe) 4 MOA vs 5 MOA and will hold up to heavy recoil.

I ordered an Untradot 30 yesterday.  I "hear" that it should hold up.  We'll see.  Thanks for all the input!

I just picked up an old Qwik Point for my 30 herrett and that is working great, plus no batteries needed.

I'm running an aimpoint 5000 on my 12" 45-70.  So far 40 rounds of lever evolution 325 gr and 100+ rounds of trapdoor level 300gr hand loads.  Recoil is stout and with the hornady stuff bordering on vicious, but no scope problems.

The Aimpoints are out of my budget.  I went with the Ultradot 30.  Haven't had a chance to go to the range to sight it in yet.  I'll post again when I have some results.  Thanks again for the replies.
