444 Magazine question?

Hi All,
 

I have a well used 22" 444, pre-safety model, headed my way. The gun has a 4 rd magazine and I want to reduce it to 2 rds. I know I could probably just plug it like a repeating shotgun but has someone shortened the tube mag and maybe posted the process somewhere? FWIW, I want to shorten the magazine because I am going to convert the gun to a 410 rifled shotgun and my state has a 3 round maximum on shotguns. I am also going to cut & crown the barrel at 18.5" so the shorter mag should look okay.

You will want to shorten the tube from the muzzle end, the other end has a bulge to help loading the 444 cartridge.  Also need to cut another dovetail in the bottom of the barrel and fill in the original cut that holds the mag tube out front.  Take a trip over to Marlin Owners web site and do a search in the gun smithing section, I think you will find some info there.  (www.marlinowners.com)  DP

Thanks, still learnin' may way around the marlin site.  My 444 has a barrel band on the mag tube and from the schematic I found at Numrich is doesn't look like it is dovetailed.  I will know tomorrow when I pick it up from my FFL. 8)
